Nose smells dense and expansive but also a bit young. The most closed of the 1er crus on the nose. Floral, herbal, sweet green and so nuanced and complex. Green apple, acacia. Superb complexity. Chewy and dense with great concentration and explosiveness. Great freshness and richness. Finishes savory and salty. Even some pine resin on the nose. Really savory in 2022. But man the minerality. Like a salt lick on the finish. Amazing how savory and gamey this is. As this opens the nose gets terrific spice. A cross between an herbal and fantastic cardamon spice. This has a long life ahead if it.

Neal Martin has to be smoking crack for his review of this wine. Anyway. Stunning nose of seashells, lemon merengue, Meyer lemon, airy minerals, oyster brine and so much more. Fantastic! Some wet stones as well and tree bark and semi wet soil. Big time Gout de Terroir. Palate is super elegant and has loads of salty, concentrated fruit and is energetic as all can be. Dense as this bottling usually is. What texture and richness but allied with salinity and a licking a rock finish that is very long. Ideally this needs 3-5 years but what a smoker now. What length!

Huge confectionery nose of spiced apple, cotton candy, huge seashell explosiveness, minerals galore and some light pear skin notes. In a word, stunning. Also a sense of richness on the palate. Palate is so clean, so sleek, so refined and so chiseled it’s a work of art. Young but stuffed this ideally needs 2 to 5 years in the cellar. Dynamite long finish and jaw dropping purity, acidity and freshness. Wow. Insane energy to this wine. So compact.

Wow this aged so well. Sick nose. Seashells, savory, confectionary, so mineral and exuberant. Deep. So airy and floral. Stunning. Palate is deep, silky and rich with terrific energy and sap. So pure and chiseled. Electric. So long and mineral. Just a hint of opulence then acid crash and minerals with lingering pithy fruit on the finish. Awesome texture and lime rock intensity. So juicy and explosive. Expansive as it airs. Solid 9.4. So long. Just lingers and lingers.

This is a ripe, fat Chablis, but still identifiable as a [ripe fat] Chablis. Nose is super fruity, with Golden Delicious apples, and a bit of that telltale wet old seashell minerality. Fat and almost sweet in the mouth, with surprisingly low acidity. Pleasant, but the weather conditions of 2015 leave this lacking in Chablis-ness.

This is terrific and Neil Martin’s review is opposite of my experience. Nose has intense lemon lime with terrific sweet Meyer lemon drop and intense seashell minerality. Almost perfumed. Obviously very young but wonderful. Palate is electric. Palate is electric with loads of acid and mineral and a tight core of fruit that will need some age to flesh out. Long finish with tense fruit and mineral.

Always the class of the 1er cru at Dampt and man is this a smoker. Gorgeous nose of pear, apple, intense salty iodine, gorgeous ocean air, confectionary minerality. Palate is superb with wonderful texture and richness and lovely crunch. So clean and pure with racy acidity and freshness and awesome explosiveness. Concentrated and balanced with a long salty finish with terrific crunch and texture. So pure and ripe but with just insane freshens. So long and persistent. A star.

Moving ahead to another Chablis, our weather cooled down to 93°F now in the hills of the Berkshires of far western Massachusetts. Now to a Premier Cru whose élevage is in the wonderful and magical concrete egg.

Nose...if I could invite you to soak some oyster shells in water and then pull them out, shove your nose in them, this is that smell, then add a squeeze of lemon.
Palate... Wow minerality, flowery notes, very balanced acidity it's so attractive, so fresh! A crazy value at $32...concrete egg in Chablis? WTF why isn't everyone doing this?

24hr Update: Mineral core persists, touch of light acidity, almost better the following day.
