Dark Ruby in colour. Lifted aromatics showing red fruits (Barb thought red plum) raspberry, liquorice and a tobacco note. Same coming through on the savoury palate with a lovely fluid mouth feel. I have always loved the Mencia grape from Bierzo from the first time I tried it. Interestingly made by Alvaro Palacios who shot to fame in Priorat with his high priced “L’Ermite”. I recommend you watch the Documentary on Priorat.

Rich crimson in colour. Ultra savoury on nose and palate - lacking the fruit it had a few years ago - still with M+ acidity and M- Tannins. Aromas of rose petals, earth and gravel. Have loved the Mencia grape from the first time I tasted it. It has the ability to produce flavoursome dry reds from old low yielding hillside plots on poor schist dominated soils. One of the 1001 Wines.

I was really excited to open this as I love the vineyard but had no idea that this wine would reek of new oak and have a whiskey barrel heat to the finish. Not my favorite Mencia.

A bigger style of Mencia, with plummy/raspberry fruits, generous weight but still fresh and lively, rustic but charming Cornas-like tannins.

Medium / full bodied, pomegranate, burnt plum, leather. Young - fruity, but tannic. Delicious.
