Proof Mencia can stand on its own. Just an all around delicious wine with black fruit and spice. Well balanced and a great value for this authentic, no frills red from one of Spain's up and coming regions

Drank with Christmas dinner. We had our traditional pork tenderloin with port sauce and au jus. The pork was cooked right, but is a little tough. Good flavor. Plus sweet potatoes with broiled marshmallows (kids thing), and roasted potatoes. First Bierzo. It’s a very good pairing. Slightly rich wine with good tannins. Plums, rich cherry, raspberries, and black pepper. Medium-length finish that is full of flavor. Elissa gave it to me as a gift several years ago.

Alcohol a bit out of balance. This tastes very modern and generic to me, though not over-oaked. Have had four bottles of Bierzo, 3 from Palacios. None have been wines I would want to buy again, though certain Bly they're better than 90% of supermarket dreck
