The 2016 Maestro is; 32% Roussane, 23% Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay 23%, Viognier 15% & Grenache Blanc 7%.

The nose has very nice yellow florals, honeycomb, waxy notes, meyer lemon, green apple skin, fresh herb notes, white peach, lime, pineapple, some apricots with yellow/spring flowers with mixed greens.

The body is lean to medium. The fruits start fresh, lively and waxy and evolve into deep crispy minerality, white spice and powdery chalkiness, honeycomb, waxy, meyer lemon, green apple skin, fresh herb notes, white peach, lime, pineapple, some apricots with yellow/spring flowers with mixed greens. The acidity is a little too high for my wheelhouse and the balanced finished goes on and on.

Photos of; another area of their tasting lounge, large oak casks, property grounds and the view from their Cellar Door.

Yellow gold in color. Full nose of dried flowers and baked apple. Medium full palate yields the same adding citrus rind, hay, and a hint of lanolin. Sturdy backbone of acidity supports it all. It’s showing it’s age with a wee bit of oxidation but in a way that adds interest. This bottle is still going strong. I imagine a younger version would be simply stellar! Drink up now.

White field blend that is a little bit of a charmer. Nice overall balance, pleasantly fresh.

Kitchen sink blend from South Africa: sorta all over the place, complex nose of lemon custard, apple, orchard fruit, white flowers, roasted nuts, butterscotch & honey. Silky suave on palate, oily, vibrant acidity - clean finish w/lanolin - quinine. Don’t know if these varietals belong together but it holds together just enough to pull it off.
