De Bortoli
Villages Heathcote Shiraz Grenache
Initial thoughts were that this is just another high alcohol (14.5%) overly extracted Aussie red, and while it does posses some of those characteristics, over a couple of days it opened up nicely, to show a hint of the rustic French roots which these varieties derive from. Nice fresh acidity, subtle tannins and a dusty / spicy wild berry flavours all combine nicely. Good ageing potential no doubt.

Jun 25th, 2020And my Aussie Shiraz and food matching adventure continues thanks to Wine Selectors! I matched this 2016 Shiraz + Grenache blend from De Bortoli up with a recipe from the Dish Mag 'Meatball, Tomato & Basil Ragu' - the recipe called for some wine to be added so naturally a bit went in the dish and we also enjoyed drinking it with it - wonderful match! I loooved the idea of making the meatballs from sausages, we choose chorizo sausies which I think went well!
A fun fact for you, De Bortoli are one of the 12 Australia's First Families of Wine which you can read more about on the blog: travellingcorkscrew.com.au/blog/australias-first-families-of-wine
Made from grapes 🍇 from Victoria's Heathcote Region, this red blend is a plummy red on the eye. Notes of black olives, cherries 🍒, raspberries and violets come through on the nose. In the mouth it's juicy with a good oomph of flavour and decent length finish. Wine & food matching bliss 🍝🍷
All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy! #sample #tcweekdaywine #tctastingnotes
