Flint, dusty, slightly smoky, med body, tart red cherry, med tannin. Not too complex, an easy going wine.

An indigenous grape with a racy reputation. In the 2000s, the Cesanese grape came into the news due to its inclusion in the debut wine of American porn star Savanna Samson which earned favorable ratings among wine critics. Spicy cherry with lovely acidity. Definitely a keeper.

A small wine shop acquisition, purchased on recommendation of a wine steward I trust, Damiano Ciolli's 2009 Silene Olevano Romano Cesanese is crafted from the Cesanese grape. An indigenous variety to the Lazio region of Italy, this lovely example offers up aromas of forest floor, Kukicha twig tea, plums and red cherries. It's medium bodied and not the least bit heavy, the palate is quite similar to the nose, and is abundant with fine tannins and vibrant acidity. A fine food wine that is worth exploring.

First Cesanese and it was surprisingly good. Never expect much good wine out of Latium, but this changed my opinion. Worked perfectly with homemade mushroom and ham pizza.

A nice surprise - my first Cesanese - needed a long hearty breath of fresh air upon opening but grew into a pleasant, charcuterie friendly wine. The nose, prior to aeration, was a bit too peed-on-cat-litter for me, and then grew into a pleasant smokey/maple bacon. Pleasant acid in the mid palette and the linger was equally acidic, yet pleasant. Nice surprise.

A bright, forward, simple and medium body charmer fuels the business chat, like a Sangiovese blend, but southern style.

Reductiveness blew off with a decant. Simple but nice drinking.
