A friend Guillermo brought this with him from San Sebastián on our Champagne trip and was kind enough to share. Great way to start the first night. Aged extremely well.

1 person found it helpfulJul 7th, 2016Tannins resolved but shockingly young (this was the crianza, I mistakenly thought it the GR). Squinting, there’s a note of brown at the rim but the core is a translucent dark black with red glints. Huge nose of tobacco, vanilla, forest floor, cinnamon, and clove. Massive palate, still superb balance of acid and fruit/secondary. Maybe misses a touch of length on the finish vs the GR, but a very solid finish carries by the acids. Last of the great aged Rioja bargains (where you can find it?)?

Feb 19th, 202312 years have taken all the rough edges on this wine. Lovely and smooth. Our very gracious waiter at Posada de la Villa in Madrid set us up well with the 2004 vintage, even though we ordered the 2007. A wonderful accompaniment to the roast lamb.
