Cuvaison
Napa Valley Chardonnay
I was actually very impressed with this. A few others did not dig it but is a pretty impressive testament to the wine making. This is a 37 year old Chardonnay made by Philip Togni. A loose theme of the evening was Old CA Cab and Togni wines. This was a treat provided by @Matthew Beckman who is a master of sourcing aged CA wines. There is still ample fruit here, very flinty and a nose of kerosene but fun to drink. I enjoyed it for everything that it was, not disappointed for what it was not. The glass half full and consumed with pleasure philosophy.

Jun 6th, 2017Certainly past prime, but exceeded expectations. Made by Phillip Togni back in the day. Very dark gold.

Jun 5th, 2017Going along with a themed vertical of Togni Estate reds, I had this 1980 Cuvaison Chardonnay to begin the evening. He was the winemaker at the time. Outperformed expectations...very honeyed in color, mounds of flint, another fun example of well stored aged Cali wines.
