Did you know Shiraz is the most widely planted and best known red grape variety in Australia? But not only that, Australia is the home to the oldest Shiraz vines still in production in the world with vineyards dating back to 1843 ‼️ Stats via #wineaustralia

I was spoilt by Curtis Wines who recently sent me this sample of their 2016 Cavaliere Shiraz from McLaren Vale (SA). The Shiraz vines for this wine are 60 years old 🍇
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The #KateSpade bag wasn’t included 😜 Mr Spittoon actually got that for me a couple of years ago without any help picking it out - he has good taste!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My tasting note 📝: It’s a deep purple-red colour in the glass with sweet and smoky notes on the nose alongside hints of berries and a whiff of apricots. In the mouth it’s nutty, smooth, berry filled and has fine elegant black tea tannins. A joy to drink 🍷

All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!

Red, red wine you know how to swoon me on these cold Victorian winter nights! This #sample of the @curtisfamilyvineyards Cavaliere 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon hails from South Australia’s McLaren Vale Region.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s a rich corduroy red colour in the glass. Black fruits, vanillin oak and anise spiked chocolate dominate the nose for me. While in the mouth it’s smooth and elegant with juicy chocolate-covered fruits, spice and a nice, decent length finish. Definitely one for the decanter!

FINALLY … this is starting to open up. The sharp (and intrusive) tannins have mellowed. It remains not as rounded as would be expected. It is nevertheless very quaffable,

... despite a double decant and 4 hours in a decanter still had enough tannins and acid to suck the cheeks together. Slowly opens up to deep black berries but needs another decade in the cellar
