Comm. G.B. Burlotto
Mores Verduno Langhe Barbera Blend
According to the winery, Pelaverga is a rare, indigenous variety, found in the village of Verduno in Italy's Piedmont. As it opens, with a sort of mounting energy in the glass, a melange of white pepper and flowers followed by brambly fruit—in this case it's the spice and floral character that dominates. The nose is far different from the mouth, which is rather more dainty than expected, with all of the poise of a cold climate Pinot Noir. That spicy character reemerges at the close, intensifying with each passing moment. 13.5% ABV

May 30th, 2020Dark, less aromatic than others in the Burlotto range. Blended red that feels like it leans too much toward Barbera but ultimately loses the defining grape character along the way. Possibly my least favourite of the Burlotto entry level wines tried over the last week. Also feels a bit heady and a couple of glasses were enough.

Jan 30th, 2021Just a really good Nebbiolo. Hits all the right notes of cherry and tar.

Jan 6th, 2019A beautiful blend showing the characteristics of both varietals with a lot of complexity. The gentle fruit of barbera to soften out the gripping Nebbiolo tannins is a winner. Needed time and air to get there, would suggest decanting when young.

Feb 19th, 2018Light garnet. Elegant spice driven nose of cinnamon, clove and cracked pepper. Bright red cherries. Earth. Quite decadent and round on the attack finishing with fresh acid and fine tannins. Candied strawberry. So delightful.
