Clos Saron
Blue Cheer California Cinsault Carignan
Gideon’s “cheerful,” presumably easy-drinking red is certainly that, but also shows the depth and mystery that I’ve come to associate with Clos Saron and these plots of land. The nose is flush with wild, feral berry fruit: raspberries, strawberries, and blackberries, and spicy black pepper, savory herbs, compost-heavy potting soil and animal musk. Palate is acid-driven with a strawberry balsamic element. Tannins are minimal, and the finish is relatively short but clean. Unmistakably Clos Saron.
