Clos Salomon
Givry 1er Cru Pinot Noir
Strong oak, doesn't have the useful finesse of Pinot noir. However a very decent wine except being atypical

Oct 28th, 2020Very tasty! Lots of earth and spice, if I was blinding this wine I would think Chianti Classico

Apr 25th, 2020Completely different animal than the 2015. Still very backwards, with very intense rose and lavender aromas. Mid palate not quite there yet, but this is very intriguing.

Mar 15th, 2019This was described to us as having “layers of earth” and there was an earth element but the first impression was of fresh, bright red cherry and currant with ample acidity. It opened up to deeper notes of dark cherry and earth. Paired well with a modern version of Peking Duck with a rich reduction sauce spiked with sherry vinegar. I think a few years more in the bottle will develop more complexity.

Oct 24th, 2018The Givry 1er Cru is among the very greatest values in all of Burgundy. The 2015 release is exceptionally elegant and inviting, showcasing the character of the vintage quite well with its open aromatics and full extraction. It's also a very elegant wine with a savory earth component, showing some young tannins but noticeably softer after a couple of hours. Textbook example of whole cluster aromatics and structure, for those on the hunt for such wines. The Du Gardin family has owned this monopole for several generations, now adhering to biodynamic farming practices and gentle, gravity-flow winemaking with minimal intervention. The results speak for themselves- this is a very transparent and highly expressive wine.

Jan 18th, 2018Young. Sharp acidity at first. Opens to rich fruit and after an hour really lets out the rich favors out. Nice finish. Would give more time, definite aging potential
