So different to the magnum of 2002 we had on Thursday night. This 2010 is the Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier I knew and loved. The 2002 showed this Cuvée is not for long keeping. See previous Delectable notes for the 2010 - from a wet year in the ACT apparently but this is still brilliant. Spicy, a touch of white pepper, savoury red fruits. Just medium weight. Superb. Tasted another on January 20, 2024 with no further notes. On 23/1/24 HH said “A delicious and delightful red, drinking in its prime. No hurry as it seems to have many years ahead of it. 95 points. Same window through to 2030.

My last bottle of 4 and I was lucky to get 4 bottles when it was released. Only 1800 made due to frost destroying 92% of the crop. That apricot note from the Viognier, in its youth has integrated. Lovely savoury spicy aromas - like an Arabian Spice Bazaar as Halliday once described this Cuvée from Clonakilla. Amazing intensity with spice and dried sweet herb. Long considered the benchmark for Shiraz Viognier in this country. Perhaps challenged by Yarra Yering Dry Red No. 2 on occasions.
