Spicy and peppery on the nose with a hint of apricot from the Viognier whose influence has diminished over the years. Red cherry and pepper on the palate. Generally regarded as one of the finest Shiraz blends in Australia. Cool climate - Intensity without weight. I love this style and this 2004 was a treat for the senses. Soft resolved fine savoury tannins. Sadly my last 2004 in 750ml although I did find a magnum after making this note.

The fragrant nose gets you in immediately - lavender, sweet tobacco and apricot (would you believe). The Viognier makes its presence felt providing this intoxicating perfumed nose. On the palate more nuances of fruit than you would get with a great Cote Rotie, but who cares - this is excellent. Medium weight with silky tannins. Generally regarded as the benchmark for Shiraz/Viognier in Australia and at 12 years of age this is showing that in spades. I have bought every vintage of this wine since 2001 and this is probably the best together with the 2001 although Tim Kirk says the 2015 current release is the best he has ever made.

Spicy nose - no apricot nuances as one sometimes gets with this wine. It remains one of Australia's best Reds and arguably the benchmark for Shiraz Viognier. Sweet minerally spicy and savoury palate. Some gamey notes. A little more restrained than 3 previous tastings after reference to my tasting notes. 2004 vintage.

Too quaffable almost - soft tannins starting so show some age. Fragrant from the Viognier. Silky
