Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona
Rosso di Montalcino Sangiovese
A cooling whiff of minty herbs gives way to dusty cherry and sweet rosy florals as the 2019 Rosso di Montalcino unfolds in the glass. It’s pure and vibrant on the palate, with a cascade of bright wild berry fruits, herbs and minerals. There’s admirable length and a subtle tug of tannin that frames the experience nicely, as this tapers off with a lasting note of hard red candies. (Eric Guido, Vinous, January 2022)

Pizza wine! No formal notes but I drank this alongside the Mocali RdM and I found this to be more to my preference. The Ciacci Piccolomini has a touch more polish and class; with a bit more depth while still being very true to place. Don’t get me wrong, the Mocali was good, this was just a touch better in my opinion.

May 22nd, 2020Blackberries, red rope licorice, dried herbs, spices. Lighter weight than I expected and very pleased by that. I had been hearing very positive things about the 2016 Rosso’s and this bottle supports everything I’ve heard. Impressive and a sublime pairing with pasta.

Jun 15th, 2019Peppermint candy, small red berries, sage and balsamic aromas with a hint of tar. Very silky mid palate with mineral backbone and briary flavors of sour cherry, cinnamon, iron and licorice. Sleek and elegant wine that never gets too far away from bramble and spice. Outstanding QPR.

Mar 3rd, 2019Beautiful violet floral note on the nose, also displays strawberry, raspberry, red cherry, fig and hint of raisins. Licorice and savory dried herbs can be found too. Juicy and vivid. Med plus finish, med to med plus finish. Delicious wine.

Nov 11th, 2018I was a bit concerned about the 14.5% ABV, but the wine carries it well. Dark & red cherries on the palate, & some chocolate in the finish.

3 people found it helpfulDec 22nd, 2013Ciacci's 2017 Rosso di Montalcino is racy and inviting, as wines from this vintage tend to be. Soft curves push forward a core of succulent red cherry, sweet spice, tobacco, dried flowers and rose petal. Although the 2017 has quite a bit of richness, it remains translucent and very Sangiovese in feel. The Rosso is a very pretty wine, and a terrific value. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, October 2019)
