Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona
Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese
A lovely clear garnet color in the center and light brown rim. Fresh rolled cigar aroma right off the bat with a nice black cherry and plum fruit quality. The minerality comes through for me as wet leaves and dirt. Savory like sautéed mushrooms on the palette, with a good bite to the tannins, acid, and alcohol, (at a whopping 15%!) which needs time. The fruit develops nicely in it’s quite decent length. I suspect this will get better and better in a few more year’s time.

Dec 25th, 2018Bright red. The fresh, clean, perfumed nose hints at red cherry and blood orange. Then sweet and supple on the palate, but with a lively mouthfeel to the red fruit and underbrush flavors thanks to harmonious, vibrant acidity. Has much more midpalate flesh to support its acidity than some other less successful 2013 Brunellos, all of which are made in a similar high-acid style typical of the vintage. Finishes broad, savory and nicely persistent. This 2013 from Ciacci Piccolomini is made in a much cooler-climate style than is usual for this producer. (Ian D'Agata, Vinous, April 2018)

Apr 4th, 201899% sure I have the right wine here. Good stuff. Has a light bite to it and some grit. Like most Italians I know. Would pair well with Italian food, but tonight we eat reubens.

Oct 25th, 2022Has a long life ahead and is barely hitting its stride... but we just couldn’t wait.

Aug 17th, 20202013 vintage. Was stored poorly at store - no acid left, fruit and tannins wearing off - but after second hour some cherry fruit came alive along with older-wine nuances. Such a solid producer: if stored properly this might be a 93+. $43 at Joe Canal’s (last bottle).
