Château Soudars
Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend
2009 vintage. Merlot (50%), Cabernet Sauvignon (49%) and Cabernet Franc (1%). A solid wine that is holding up well, but the tannins are a bit rough. Lacks the charm of this great vintage. Abv. 13,5%.

Feb 21st, 2022Blackberries, black cherries, earth, mushroom, cocoa bean, clove. Dry, nice acidity that fits with the medium tannins and medium alcohol. Wow super long finish 12-13 seconds.

Nov 27th, 2022Cork disintegrated upon opening but after filtration was rewarded with a big nose with vanilla tones and a smooth finish.

Apr 10th, 2016A bit disappointing for a 2006... Wine lacked real structure.

Mar 27th, 2016So tonight we are going to have roast beef so thought a drop of red wine might be appropriate. As we are up north, we grabbed something from the "secure off-site storage" cellar. That something is the first bottle out of the case of Château Soudars Cru Bourgeois 2000 from Haut-Medoc. I'm looking forward to trying this wine as we picked up the case from Quebec at the SAQ Depot a few years ago for a steal. Not often you can buy a case of Bordeaux that is already well aged for a reasonable price! Notes: the colour is a deep red still, almost with a purple tinge. The nose is soft so far but the wine is cold and freshly opened. The initial flavours are leather, chocolate and black currants. The tannins are nicely mellowed leaving a very balanced finish. I'm looking forward to seeing this develop over the next few hours.
