Château Smith Haut Lafitte
Grand Cru Classé de Graves Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend
In a great place right now. Would say it’s at the start of a fantastic drinking window. Leather, cedar pipe tobacco. Super yummy

Jun 13th, 2020This is an exceptional wine - Bordeaux of the highest order - magnificent deep purple color with truly extraordinary nose - it took a while to open but when it did - the taste was thrilling with all the fruit forward caveats and yet the tannins were just right - this is a pony that is still maturing to become a full grown stallion someday - maybe ten years at least

Apr 16th, 2019The estate dates back to the Crusades, and Scottish navigator, George Smith, the owner in the 18th century. He was followed by M. Duffour-Dubergier, Mayor of Bordeaux, and then Louis Eschenauer, a famous wine shipper. In 1990, Daniel and Florence Cathiard now own the estate. A challenging year. Dark berry fruit aromas, earthy herb spice. On the palate complex black fruit flavors and espresso notes. Firm tannins, smoky oak, medium+ finish, earthy mineral ending. Drink now.

Feb 15th, 2018Just starting to show the first signs of aromatic development. Sumptuous, plush and forward, with notable density and fabulous balance. Loved it.

Dec 16th, 2017The best of the best. Nuanced, precise and so delicately delicious. Fresh and bright with precisely served portions of dark cherry and cassis, leather drenched in cuban tobacco and edged in uplifting minerality. Needless to say to say, this bottle went way too fast.

Feb 25th, 2024The last time I tried this was back in 2016. I gave it 87 points with the note that while there was no flaw to the wine it simply lacked verve. So, five years on here’s where we land...88 points to a wine that is gently entering its state of decline. Drink Up!
