I’ve had my mind on this bottle for a few weeks - the wife wanted a special bottle for a regular Friday night. It only needed an hour to decant for a 12-year old vintage. Subtle cassis, cured meat, mushroom, hint of licorice and leather on the palate. Fine dense tannins polish off a savory finish. Beautiful wine. #margaux #2ndgrowth

1961 Vintage . 12% Alcohol. 375 mL. Lots of tobacco and leather with a hint of dried cherries. Over the hill. Perhaps better in larger formats as half bottles usually age faster. Still a nice gift brought by Sean Gold.

Black currant and oak on the nose. Not very powerful. The palate is rather vertical than horizontal which is a bit surprising considering the vintage. Currant along the acid backbone but no big tannins and very little structure. Blind I would have guessed a cru bourgeois from listrac rather than a second cru classé from Margaux. The finish is rather nice with currant and a touch of bitterness. Good not great and playing way above its league. Kind of disappointing

Delightful 2nd #grandcruclassé from #margaux - needs a lot of time to open up but your patience is rewarded with a subtle but deep berry nose with some forest floor, mushrooms and light spice. Tannins are well integrated and slide into a long finish. Just goes down so easily.
