Château Pontoise Cabarrus
Cru Bourgeois Haut-Médoc Cabernet Franc Blend
Haut-Médoc, Médoc, Bordeaux, France
2016 vintage. Owned by the Tereygeol family since 1959, Pontoise Cabarrus stands for great value Haut-Médoc. The vineyards (27 hectares) are quite old ( 25 to 50 years, with the oldest vines planted in 1956). In 2016 the "grand vin" represents only 35% of the production. Cabernet Sauvignon dominates with 55%, blended with 43% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc. It smells older than it tastes. Fully mature, with a round mouthfeel and good length. A reliable Cru Bourgeois Supérieur and very good value for money. Abv. 14%.

Sep 20th, 20252022 vintage. In general this is a 60/40 Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot blend. Concentrated ripe black fruit with some rough edges on the tannins. Good indeed, but given the quality of the 2020 and especially the 2019, I expected this even better.

Nov 23rd, 20222019 vintage. A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot from 25 - 50 years old vines close to the Saint-Estèphe border. In 2019 only 35% of production made it into the grand vin. Seriously good wine that sells for a song. Ripe black fruit and cedary oak notes and a subtle hint of nutmeg. In the mouth it is amazingly complex and concentrated at this price level. The fruit is dense and layered, while perfectly balanced with fresh acidity and ripe tannin. Very good length too. Should age well for at least 10 to 15 years. Superb value!
