Château Pontet-Fumet
Saint Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend
St. Émilion, Libournais, Bordeaux, France
2022 vintage. According to the back label, this is mainly Merlot on gravelly soils ( which in general are more suitable for Cabernet Sauvignon). Rather discrete nose of timid berries and a hint of flowers. In the mouth the acidity is quite pronounced (especially in the context of the warm vintage), dominating the fruit. On the website it is sold at 31 euro (which is ridiculously high compared to 2 wines around the same price I tasted next to it : Aspirant de Beychevelle 2020 and Baron de Brane 2022), but I bought the bottle for 16,22 euro in a supermarket ( which is still not very good value in Bordeaux for this quality). Abv. 13,5%.

Out of mag. At almost 20 years, thought it needed a few more.

Jul 16th, 2014I enjoyed it. Harder to find where I’m located. Opened up to some of the plummy notes I like and tend to look for, more so than your typical st emilion. I’d buy again if the price was right solely because this gives me nostalgia from 2000’s and before pomerols that are my favorite.

Rich deep black fruit even after 45 minutes of decanting on the nose plus notes of chocolate, cassis and light spices. This is a deep dark wine. It beckons you to drink. Once you do you will find the dark fruit and earthy notes mix with some tobacco, spice and a slight coffee bean note. Tannins are on the plus side. Finish is long and shows of the class it was made from.
