Lower level bottle but still alive and kicking . So elegant and refined with dried red flowers , mulberry , graphite , liquid minerals , burnt sugar blood orange . The palate is elegant yet powerful with tons of dry extract and a little tannins still. I imagine a perfect bottle would be truly incredible but this bottle was pretty darn good .

Day 2 of WineBoyz Wineapalooza. Tasted blind. Dark reddish amber color. Translucent with clear rims. Nice weight. Seems really old. Notes of cola, rhubarb, cranberries, cigar box. Guessed Merlot-based Bordeaux from the 20s/30s. This faded as the day went on. We've had better versions of this, but it was still great to check in on it one more time. Especially with other 61s in the lineup.

Pretty esoteric bottling for Army & Navy Store London.

1961 Legend stands out in spectacular form! It might be the silkiest wine I ever had as the velvety texture opens gently into cashmere and seamless transition to rich cocao laced ganache like sentiment which was the best sludge I’ve ever tasted too! Wow...deserves the legend!

Tasted blind, although we are now told that all of the reds tonight are 61's so our tasting becomes a single blind horizontal exercise. This wine is brownish tawny, translucent and very old-looking. Perfumed nose with notes of cola, rhubarb, cherry and earth. Has a light structure with faded fruit at first. We're told this bottle was a leaker with the lowest fill of all of tonight's bottles. Guesses are all over the map including Italian and very old red burg (me). We've had spectacular 61 Palmers before and in the first part of the evening, this bottle was missing it. BUT, late in the evening (and 9 hours after opening) this caught its sea legs and grew in volume, complexity and delivery. My rating was crossed out three times as I upgraded this while we all marvelled at the improvement... and in the end, this 61 Palmer showed it's pedigree and overall power. Glad we waited it out! From and old bottle with a medium shoulder level and a fully branded cork that had the last third of it crumble a bit. Opaque in the glass but still quite ruby in color with reddish amber rims. Nose of small blackberries, spice, cedar wood, charcoal, and soil. Unbelievably rich and fruity in the mouth. Tannins completely integrated, leaving you with a mouth of silky fruit. The perfume of this wine is amazing. One of the best Bordeaux experiences of all time for me. Maybe the 61 Latour beats it but I'm splitting hairs at that point. Smoke em if you got em.

1961 Chateau Palmer. Opened and decanted 1 hour before serving. Was flat and very thin before decanting. After decanting, the wine opened up and gained more heft. Spices on the nose (cinnamon, pepper) and nice tannins. Lacked depth or layers of flavor, but still amazing for a 59 year old wine.
