An overlooked vintage, coming as it did between the quixotic fireworks of 1947, and the sheer sophistication and aplomb of the ’49. It had one of the smallest harvests, very tannic in its youth. Alas, Mouton wasn’t its best showcase last evening. The wine had muted aromatics, quite flat-footed as it opened, subdued mid palate, and seemed quite undistinguished on the finale.
