Château Moulin du Cadet
Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend
St. Émilion, Libournais, Bordeaux, France

The last of a few bottles I have of this, and it remains an extracted bruiser of a wine. Many may appreciate this style more than I. (Update: This is correct. My wife likes it a lot.) Completely saturated color, very chocolatey nose. Fruit there, but not a lot of nuance. On the palate, it’s massive and a bit hot. Look, it’s kinda like those guys at the gym who take the muscle mass thing a bit too far, OK?

Aug 8th, 20252019 vintage. Previous owner Alain Mouiex (also Château Fonroque) sold this tiny (less than 3 hectares) estate to the owners of Château Sansonnet, Cadet Soutard, Villemaurine and Harmonie in 2015, the Lefévère family. Tasting this excellent 2019, it seems that Marie-Bénédicte Lefévère is doing a great job here. Made from 100% Merlot, it is lush and restrained at the same time. Ripe, layered fruit, fresh acidity, and a distinctive minerality make the 14,5% alcohol go unnoticed. Excellent value too, highly recommended.

Jul 15th, 2024Balanced and smooth with a hint of tobacco and berries on top of the mild tannins. Drank it solo and it didn’t necessarily need food. Definitely a good vintage. Would love to compare it to a 2016 if given the opportunity.

Incredibly fun to smell and sip but basically turned into smelly socks on the nose and thin with nothing in the mouthful.
