Chateau Montelena
Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon

Sliding into the fruitless black hole. Sadly this wine, one of my favorite Cht Montelena vintages is on the downward slide and past its prime

WOW! 1987 and 28 years young. Tried upon opening, would you believe it needed a good 30 minutes to open up. Thanks to Dr Joe and wife Kathy. Bravo!

Flight 1 , wine 1 . Quite dense and intense sweet fruit on the nose . Touches of spice , currants , plum and liquorice . This is a little advanced and probably could just be this bottle . Currant and plum notes on the palate , good roundness and rounded sweet tannin . Balanced acidity . This is perhaps not the most representative bottle , but has to be Napa. Actually oxidised quite quickly in the glass, but was enjoyable whilst it lasted . Sure there are better bottles out there . Had this as the Inglenook .

Wow. Cork went pewf on exit like a grenade. Initial nose of stewed cherry, and camphor gave way to a wonderful taste of dark fruit, charcoal and some tertiary flavors. Citrus, lead and some tar...candied nuts... Awesome stuff. Looks 20yrs younger. Beat out the Lynch Bages tonight.
