Night two at Bern’s. In the cellar the color looked great despite a low fill. But on open, this showed strong VA that did not blow off, and we declined to accept it. Our streak of luck ends for now… time to get a backup bottle.

This is a powerful wine, here is a lot of complexity in the bottle. A great structure and a robust mouth filling, the tannins a little softer then the last bottle way back but still firm. Great bottle of wine and some decades ahead, but not this one🤣😋

Sorry to say I turned 60 a couple of weeks ago. My daughters came in to celebrate this past weekend and we wanted to drink some good wine. What a trio: ‘12 Cade Reserve, ‘13 Cardinale, and ‘05 Leoville Las Cases. Ironically, I am going to score all 3 of these as 97+. They were really a treat. The Las Cases was decanted for 5 hours and it was clear that we were about 7 years too early. It’s a terrific wine and at at age ~25 it will be absolutely stunning. Already has balance and harmony. Can’t wait until I am about 67 so that I can revisit the remaking 11 bottles!

Wow! Fully mature Bordeaux is one of my favorites. Aromatics of dark black and blue fruits of blackberry, blueberry. Mid palate of leather, tobacco, saddle leather, spice. Long finish of more than a minute. Still young and viable. Nice big boy who takes charge and names. This is a great wine!
