Château Le Coteau
Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend
2018 vintage. One of those rare Margaux estates that has not been absorbed by Crus Classés. A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. Owner Eric Léglise did a great job here, a textbook refined Margaux. Cassis, flowers and cedar wood. Ripe black fruit and a little of the heat of the vintage, all balanced by mouthwatering acidity. Interestingly the vineyards are covered with flowers in an attempt to promote biodiversity. Living near, I believe I should visit this estate soon. Highly recommended. Abv. 14%.

Mar 10th, 2022Classic, structured, dignified, familiar. Like stepping in to an Episcopal church. With all the positive and negative connotations that might hold.

Nov 21st, 2023I cannot sense “small notes of lilac associated with touches of fresh violet” (smile) nevertheless, 2019 vintage is the one of Margaux I should keep in my wine rack.

Dec 3rd, 2022Expected this to be ready but it isn’t. Mellowed after a few hours in a decanter but still heavy and tannic and not too interesting
