Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend

2018 vintage. Consistent notes.

2018 vintage. One of those rare Margaux estates that has not been absorbed by Crus Classés. A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. Owner Eric Léglise did a great job here, a textbook refined Margaux. Cassis, flowers and cedar wood. Ripe black fruit and a little of the heat of the vintage, all balanced by mouthwatering acidity. Interestingly the vineyards are covered with flowers in an attempt to promote biodiversity. Living near, I believe I should visit this estate soon. Highly recommended. Abv. 14%.

Lean.

Had a 2019 in 2024. Drank a couple years too early.

Easy drink, medium to low fruit and sweetness, medium finish. I think I paid $35-40 at the wine store. Would buy again

Classic, structured, dignified, familiar. Like stepping in to an Episcopal church. With all the positive and negative connotations that might hold.

Juicy, smooth Margaux, served with cheese fondue at Bistrot Vingt, Paris

I cannot sense “small notes of lilac associated with touches of fresh violet” (smile) nevertheless, 2019 vintage is the one of Margaux I should keep in my wine rack.

Expected this to be ready but it isn’t. Mellowed after a few hours in a decanter but still heavy and tannic and not too interesting

Surprisingly very good despite the youth. Big lush body. Brilliant with the cote de boeuf.
