Château Larcis Ducasse
Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend
The 2005 Larcis Ducasse is one of the great surprises of this retrospective of nearly two hundred 2005s. A wine of shocking intensity, power and structure, the 2005 is still an infant. Inky dark fruit, gravel, lavender, leather and spice all hit the palate. In the glass, the 2005 is marvelously deep, rich and dark. I am not sure if the tannins will ever fully soften, but so what? The 2005 Larcis Ducasse is an epic wine that shows just how magical this estate is. Superb. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, April 2021)

Oct 29th, 20232005 vintage. Tasted approx 2 hours after decanting. Mucho menthol nose. The usual two-fer of dark cherry and plum coming hard at the onset with the grande finishing cedar and earth notes counter-balancing the experience. The slightest promise of youthful Larcis Ducasse fleshiness at the onset. A modicum of baking chocolate tossed into the end result. Lengthy, dusty finish. Integrated and very, very, very solid, yet just missing that upper tier. Yeah, know it was a unicorn vintage for the Right Bank and a personal fave St. Émilion producer...still don't see it improving. Filled with love and holding steady at this stage for at least another 7-8 years. 3.5.23.

Apr 22nd, 2020Still very youthful & tight like most 05’s showing lots of black fruits, graphite, licorice & violets. Not sure this will rise to reach RP 100 pt score but will need a min of another 5 - 10 years.
