Château Lalaudey
Moulis en Médoc Cru Bourgeois Red Bordeaux Blend
Wow, this is way tighter and denser than I expected. The nose shows dense cassis and dark berry fruit and loads of pencil lead/graphite. You can actually get that little astringent whiff of the tannic load you’re about to put in your mouth. Cassis, olive, iodine, and dark minerals are the main flavor components, but that’s quickly bludgeoned by a wall of tight tannins. I think there’s enough stuffing to outlast the tannins, but this needs 5 years. 8.9 for now but I could see this going much higher after a long rest in the cellar. But someone else is tasked with that because this is my only bottle!
UPDATE: It got better over the course of 3 nights and even was good the 4th and final night. A great sign for its ageing capacity. Upping from 8.9 to 9.2.

2015 vintage. More body and length than the 2016, but still unexciting for Moulis.

Feb 19th, 20212016 vintage. A bit disappointing in this great vintage, as it lacks midpalate and the finish is short. The 2015 is better.

Feb 19th, 2021It took a while for this one to open up. Dark purple color. Aromas and flavors of black berry/currant along with notes of black olives, black pepper and plums. Hint of wet gravel on the finish. In a word: Ripe. Fine tannins and quite rich.
