Cru Classe de Graves Pessac - Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend

I don’t drink much Bordeaux but this 2001 reminded me what all the fuss is about. Fruit was dialed back and tertiary flavors of old books and tobacco emerged. Enough acidity that you really wanted the next careful sip. At Wally’s wine bar in Beverly Hills. Where people with way too much money and little clue shop. But treasures await for those who aren’t chasing a label.

Tobacco, spices and good acidity. Not overly ripe.

Rich, mature and extremely balance but at the same time: an impressive mouth full of wine and so very subtle. Brilliant. Sun-dried tomato. Warm cherry flan. Lavender. Black fruit compote. Wet terracotta tiles on a warm summer day. The class oozes from the glass. Wow.

Always amazing. Drunk alongside 94 Latour and 97 Margaux this was the best for me. Still packed with fruit this is aging really well!

The wine which I was inducted into the Commanderie de Bordeaux. Elegant, silky smooth, and rich.

Very good. Maybe to young. Had some liquerish flavor at the end. But was drinking this next to a margaux.

Tannins softer but still has great length and incredible complexity. Gets better with each sip.

Beautiful round fruits, good acidity, toasty bread and slight earthiness and mushrooms developing. Already very interesting but a ton of life left.
