Nice reddish tawny color with clear rims. Great old Bordeaux nose. Notes of black cherry, cola, leather saddle and some barnyard funk that blows off with air. Still showing great rich fruit. Tannins resolved. This showed very well tonight.

One of the most spectacular bottles I’ve had in a very long time. Like standing in a cedar forest, shaving pencils, and plucking blackcurrants straight from the bush - running the leaves through your hands and bathing in their scent. This is a truly remarkable wine. It came from a bottle with a low shoulder level but it could have effortlessly lasted for another 20 years. Enchantingly powerful palate that never ends - tannins present but perfectly assimilated. Smelling the cork the following morning made it all come streaming back!

Beautiful wine. Classic 61. Great balance. Big nose, rich palate and moderately long and lovely finish.

A famously grand old claret that has stood the test of time--proof of the greatness of the 1961 vintage in Bordeaux!

Awakened from the cellar where it slumbered since it was released. A perfect wine.
