Dark ruby in color with a cloudy reddish rim.

Nice nose with red and black fruits, and chocolate notes.

Medium bodied with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with cherries, plums, chocolates, light earth, herbs, spices and tobacco.

Long finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a delicious Syrah blend from Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Very unique for this region. Elegant and rich. Fruit forward and complex.

Still young and needs 5 years in the bottle to mature properly, but already enjoyable. Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 to 15 years.

The high alcohol is not too noticeable at this point. Nicely balanced and good by itself or with food.

A blend of 85% Syrah and 15% Mourvèdre. Fermented in concrete vats, and aged in steel vats for 12 months. A small production of only 3,000 bottles.

16% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

$60.

Having never tried anything from Chateau Fortia, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect but it was a remarkably similar wine to “Le Vins Des Amis”. For those who are unfamiliar, Fortia is a very old estate in Chateauneuf du Pape and what makes the “Reserve” so unique (and why I specifically chose to taste it alongside the “Le Vin des Amis”) is that it’s predominately Syrah (approx. 85%!) with the balance being Mourvedre. Deep purple color with an opaque core; high viscosity. Medium+ intensity with purple flowers, a mix of blue and red fruits, bacon fat, and pepper salami. On the palate, this was a slightly broader shouldered wine compared to the wine from the North. The blue and red fruits had more power and the black pepper was more pronounced. Medium+ tannin. Medium acid. The finish is a bit hot but when considering the 15.5% abv it’s remarkably under control. Long finish. A really delicious, if somewhat unusual CdP that I would be happy to drink again.

16+/20 (88+/100) Свежий и ягодный аромат с тонами малины, клубники и сливы. Тельное с высокой кислотностью и интенсивными, вязкими танинами. Молодо, ему бы ещё пару лет полежать.
