Yesterday’s Wednesday Wine Committee lunch. Normal format of 1 sparkler, 3 whites, 4 reds and 1 dessert wine. All tasted blind.

I had this about 2yrs ago and my impression is consistent. Dusty and herbal. More tobacco leaf than leather notes. Dark black cherries, dark cocoa dipped cherries, cedar and truffle dusted licorice. This may be in a sleepy phase and could come out the other side full steam and youthful. Would like to try again and focus on only it. I called this early ‘00s left bank Bordeaux.

I got some brett and dill here with more muted fruit than I prefer, but everything is intact. Much debated on the night and I wasn’t in this camp.

Ending the year on a high note with a Wednesday Wine Committee appearance. As always, wines are tasted blind. This week, there was 1 sparkler, 3 whites, 2 reds and 1 dessert.

Outstanding. Won’t fool you for anything other than French Bordeaux. Cab is easily noticeable so I guessed left bank. Leather, raspberries and blackberries. Dustiness to it and still quite dry/tannic. Has another 5yrs of prime drinking and will stay open even longer.

Lovely nose of raspberry, graphite and earth. An elegant expression, with an added floral quality, and good minerality. Maybe a touch soft transitioning to the close.
