The 2013 Château de Fargues has a light bouquet for this noble estate: airy yellow plum, orange blossom and adhesive scent bubbling up with time. The palate is well balanced with unctuous honeyed fruit and fine acidity. It has a light tangy finish with a smudge of Seville orange marmalade. Perhaps on this occasion, I was anticipating a little more? (Neal Martin, Vinous, August 2023)

Initial aromas of apricot and a petro chemical smell (in a good way) and orange peel. Dubbed somewhat cruelly “Poor mans d’Yquem”. A delicious Sauternes from a producer who does not get a lot of publicity. With time it opened up with a palate of profound intensity showing Apricots, Cumquat jam, burnt toffee, and barley sugar. One of the 1001 wines to drink before you die.

Whaaaaaaa?! This changed my mind and threw me for a loop for any aged sweet wine going forward. It was so damn fresh yet deep but light but heavy but...but...I do not even know but what a goddamn treat. We drank on the podcast and all agreed it may just be the most extraordinary thing yet. Honeysuckle green things but honey and honeysuckle and orange rind and roasted nut but it is all mellow af and good lord this wine. Never looking at Sauternes quite the same. It was perfect. Oh and then we tossed some cheese into the mix. Explosion of expectations and everything.

Post-Champagne tasting - beautiful intense nose but missing something on the palate. Not quite the viscosity, acidity or depth I would have liked.

Dry stone fruits, marmalade, pineapple, toffee nuts, honey, soft minerals, perfect acidity. Actually, I enjoyed it more than the 97 d'Yquem I had a few months ago.
