Chateau D'Aiguilhe
Côtes de Castillon Red Bordeaux Blend
Drank 12/27/22
The third of six bottles.
Plum, baking spice, graphite, and earth on the nose. Once again, the flavor profile is quite rich with plum, dark chocolate, baking spice, and firm, but well-integrated tannins. Long finish.
Paired beautifully with a ribeye. This one wants meat.
4/22/8/4/4 +50 = 92 pts.

Dark ruby with near black core. Abundant nose of cassis and black plum. Medium full palate yields black plum, tarry black cherry, and a hint of graphite. Fine (medium) tannins and juicy medium plus acidity. A nice step up from the "everyday" Bordeaux from the Comptes von Neipperg portfolio. Take it out or drink it in with beef stew, roast tenderloin, root vegetables, and other semi-rustic fare. Drink now through 2026.

Apr 4th, 2022Tonight I have opened the 2018 Château D'Aiguilhe Comtes von Neipperg. From Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux on the Right Bank. Blend of 80%Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc.
On the nose is black cherry, black plum, black raspberry, green bell pepper, black olive, herbaceous notes, mocha and cedar.
On the palate there is black cherry, black raspberry, plum, black currant, green bell pepper, herbs and cedar.
A beautiful medium to full bodied wine with a silky and succulent mouthfeel with medium + acidity and medium + fine tannins that has a long dark black and blue fruit finish. The weekend has started and everyone seems, from what I see, feels this pandemic is finally over. Please continue to be careful out there and stay safe and healthy. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

1 person found it helpfulAug 22nd, 2019Absolutely beautiful. Dark and full of power yet shows the freshness of the 2015 vintage. Silky and Supple this is about as good as any $40 st emillion gets. It is just off the charts good

1 person found it helpfulMay 11th, 2019This was dynamite for the price. Needed some time to open up but after about 2 hours in a decanter, it sang. Rich texture reminiscent of some of Von Niepperg's higher end estates. What I loved most was the absolute seamless and perfect integration of oak on this bottle. Rarely have I been as pleased with the oaking regiment of a wine as I was with this wine. Perfectly sweet oak and vanilla coming through without being too prevalent. A beauty of a bottle for $25.

Jun 15th, 20242020 vintage. Still nice. Checking off plenty of boxes but missing length of pleasure/enjoyment in a few areas. Not sure it improves but def holds steady as a big step above a daily drinker but not as engaging as a decent, classified growth. Not as gratuitous as some previous efforts but plenty pretty. 6.13.24.
