The 1988 Climens has a focused bouquet with lovely orange pith, quince, wet wool and showing a very light sea spray influence. The palate is well balanced with fine delineation, not quite as deep as the 1989. A more feminine and elegant Climens with a poised and quite persistent finish that just fades a little. Very fine. Tasted at the Climens vertical at the château in April 2022. (Neal Martin, Vinous, August 2022)

One of the best aged sauternes I’ve had in a long time! Candied Orange marmalade, chanterelle, honeycomb. Delicious.

Dark gold color. Great nose. Notes of apricot, brown sugar, stones, some spice and some crème brulee. Smooth in the mouth, nice texture with great power. A suitable finish to a great evening of wine and food. (Bday 12 of 12)

The Somm thought this more concentrated than d’Yquem. I thought it was a touch oxidised but it did have notes of Saffron, honey and candied Apricots. Also detected some oxidative sherry notes

On the nose; marmalade, apricots, peach, white peach, dry pineapple, orange peel, candied lemon, toffee, brandy butter, nuts, brown sugar, molasses, honey, sweet minerals, sea spray and yellow lilies. The palate matches the nose but add spiced cinnamon. The mouthfeel is thick, super rich and luscious. Delicate minerality. The acidity rains on the palate and the finish is endless. My 2nd favorite Sauternes after Chateau d'Yquem. I component tasted at this Chateau in 2014. Not just the grapes varietals separately but also when those grapes were picked. They might make 12 or more passes through the vineyards to make sure they only take fruit at it's peak ripeness. After you do this, you'll never taste Sauternes the same way. I find myself mentally picking it apart and putting back together as it swirls on my palate.

Perfectly not cloyingly sweet. In a good place.

Great friends and good wine! This wine still has a ton of life in it. WS #4 wine of the year for 2016 for the 2013 vintage.

How do you put a number on a wine like this? I miss the old smiley face rating. This would be a big smile. Tasty, gorgeous, fascinating Sauternes. Could probably go another 40 years. Great honey, baking spice, juiciness and balance. Feels light and heavy all at the same time.
