Low expectations due to cork/bottle condition (a literal ‘cabinet wine’), so you can imagine how pleasantly surprised we were! Served alongside aged Gouda.

Gorgeously supple and engaging. Honey, lemon tart, bright mint, limestone. Intense and focused. Amazing acidity and drive but all so light. Gorgeous.

The 2016 Chateau Climens is a head-turning blend made by the talented Bérénice Lurton, who has managed this property since 1992. 100% Semillon, this golden hued wine shows an exotic aromatic display, offering apricot jelly, pineapple upside down cake, butterscotch and shades of toasted hazelnut the all mingle together on the nose. Showing a glorious combination of tension and viscosity, the 2016 Climens shows incredible length and elegance despite its obvious power. Rich lemon creme brulee, vanilla cream, and orange marmalade flavors combine with a bright sense of minerality and a light salinity. The seamless quality of the wine is remarkable. Simply glorious now in its youth, this scintillating new release will have an exceedingly long life in the cellar. Drink 2026-2050- 98

Monthly WTF group recap. Theme this month was “bring something special”. Normally we taste all of the wines blind, but we decided to do a relaxed night with amazing wines at a great restaurant. Spectacular evening!

Simply a glimpse at what is to come for this beautiful Sauternes. Orange blossom, honey roasted cashews and sea salt aromatics. Decadent and rich on the palate with candied mango, pineapple and lemon tart. This will hold for a decade or two and will be lights out. Thanks
@Andrew Heffley .

Bought a case of this by mistake on release and have enjoyed it bottle by bottle for the last 15 years. A gem.

Very enjoyable Wednesday Wine Committee lunch today with @Weston Eidson & @Colby Siratt hosting. Same format as always...1 sparkler, 3 whites, 4 reds and 1 dessert wine all tasted blind.

Always such a big fan of these. It’s light and nimble while remaining viscous and powerful. Honeyed orange blossom, roasted and caramelized cashews and lemon oil. Acidity down the middle of the palate accompanies honeysuckle and graham cracker. I called this mid-‘00s Sauternes.
