Château Branaire (Duluc-Ducru)
Duluc de Branaire-Ducru Red Bordeaux Blend
What a delicious 16 year old Bordeaux from Saint Julien.
Dark ruby in color with a wide brick rim.
Full-bodied with medium acidity.
Dry on the palate with nice complexity.
Showing black fruits with cedar, licorice, coffee, light earth, herbs, spices, tobacco leaf and dark chocolates.
Elegant and easy drinking once it opens up. Needs 3 hours.
This second wine is drinking very nicely now, although not from a great vintage.
Good by itself as a sipping wine. Would also pair nicely with game meats or lamb dishes.
13% alcohol by volume.
92 points
$80.

Transparent dark red. Cigar box and just ripe black currant. Ferrous. Lithe. Some wild herbs, violets, and a foxy feral quality.

Nov 12th, 2023Tonight's wine I have opened the 2010 Chateâu Branaire-Ducru Duluc de Branaire-Ducru.
On the nose there is black cherry, blackberry, black currant, game, eucalyptus, chocolate and earth.
On the palate there is black cherry, blackberry, plum sauce, black currant, dried herbs, spice and earth.
This wine is full bodied with medium + acidity and medium + fine grippy tannins that leads to a long dark fruit earthy finish. I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend. We are almost to the end of the first week in June and the weekend is upon us. Please enjoy the rest of the week and have a great weekend. Stay safe and healthy. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

This was super fun, thanks Doug! 2001 out of magnum. Cassis, cigar box, showing tobacco but not overwhelming, spice, earth, dusty tannins and acid holding up.

Nov 18th, 2018From a great vintage this 2nd wine from the estate has 70% Cab Sauv, 23% Merlot and a few % each of CF and PV. It showed all one might expect from this level in St Julien. Nose is complex with dark fruits, berries and currants, liquorice, bell pepper, herbs and restrained oak notes; well balanced in the mouth, elegant structure, fruits as on the nose, and a satisfying long finish.

Dec 1st, 2017What’s better than a wine tasting? Following up a wine tasting with...more wine! Thanks @Benjamin Keator for opening and sharing!
If I was to factor price, this wine would be close to a 10. Absolutely beautiful ‘03 Bordeaux. Needs 30-45mins of coaxing to come around, but it shows like something 2-3X as expensive. Second wine of Branaire-Ducru. Acidity keeping this wine in check. Nose is dried fruits, floral and herbal. The palate is mainly cranberry, earthy, and some fig. Leather notes haven’t really shown up yet, so lots of life left to enjoy here.

Subdued nose of dark fruit and chocolate. Very fresh on the palate. Tannins firm but not overly grippy. Plum, blackberry, some bitter cocoa flavors. Lovely stuff

1 person found it helpfulNov 8th, 2018From magnum and it's a little more resolved than I would have expected from the 2000 vintage and out of magnum. The tannins are very well resolved. If you own this wine, I'd start enjoying it. It hasn't turned but it's ready and not going to continue to improve. The fruits are ripe & juicy; blackberries, dark cherries, blueberries, raspberries & strawberries. The black rich earth is lean and soft, wet pebbles, very soft leather, touch of tobacco leaf, big red & pink rose pedals, high acidity and an elegant, lean & polished finished. It's putting on weight after an hour & a half decant. Add used coffee grounds & black licorice on the long decant. Second wine of Branaire Ducru. On a very long decant(3 hours), it finishes pure light and dark cherries.
