Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour with some friends while we played pool. The 2018 pours a dark garnet with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of dark fruit: black plum, cassis, tobacco, cocoa, ferrous minerals, gentle, dried cool spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins and medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium. Masculine and pretty impressive value. I would imagine this would be a solid paring with cassoulet. Drink now and through 2028.

A gift from our friends who are opening up a little wine shop in France. This was a bottle that they thought I would really appreciate and they were right! I don’t often drink Tannat, mostly because I rarely see it, but I would totally be down to drink it more often if this is representative of the grape. On the nose, it was a little horse blanket giving me the impression that there was just a touch of Brett but only just. Mostly, it was raspberries and espresso. On the palate, it was raspberries, tart cherries, dark chocolate and espresso. The tannins seems to build over the two hours we enjoyed the bottle but I didn’t find them punishing. Good acid. I want more of this!
