Really pretty drinking very nicely at this point in it’s development-iron pencil lead cherry/raspberry fruit , mushroom , earth, currants . Perfect with chicken liver pate 2014 vintage

Medium purple color with medium intensity developing aromas of raspberry violet black pepper, green pepper and blackberry. Dry with medium (+) tannins, medium (+) acidity, medium alcohol. Medium (+) intensity flavors of black berry, leather, black tea, smoke and flint. Long finish and very good quality. Can drink now but has potential for further aging.

1996 Charles Joguet Varenes own-rooted bottling is showing its age more than the regular cuvee. Earth and iodine,lacks mid palate breadth and overall charm. Not awful, but not overly pleasurable either, and not in the same category of the last bottle I tasted about 5 years ago.
