Medium purple color with medium intensity developing aromas of raspberry violet black pepper, green pepper and blackberry. Dry with medium (+) tannins, medium (+) acidity, medium alcohol. Medium (+) intensity flavors of black berry, leather, black tea, smoke and flint. Long finish and very good quality. Can drink now but has potential for further aging.

Mellow. Well structured for a cab franc. Little bit of cab sauv? Cherry notes come through a mineral rich nose.

1996 Charles Joguet Varenes own-rooted bottling is showing its age more than the regular cuvee. Earth and iodine,lacks mid palate breadth and overall charm. Not awful, but not overly pleasurable either, and not in the same category of the last bottle I tasted about 5 years ago.

A wonder that this wine shows this kind of life. So well balanced with notes of fruitcake and toasted green peppers. Lots of spice and a very long finish.
