Caymus Vineyards
1858 Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon
This is my second review with this one. I wanted to share with our friends since they cooked us a nice steak dinner. The wine went very well with dinner and was enjoyed and finished off pretty quickly!

Oct 27th, 2019A nice Cabernet Sauvignon from Paso Robles, California.
Dry to off dry on the palate with black fruits and chocolate notes, vanilla, wood, spices and peppercorn.
Full bodied and smooth with medium acidity.
Good right out of the bottle. Good for parties, although a tad pricy.
From the house of the Wagner family, supposed to be a mini Caymus, but you get what you pay for 😊
13.9% alcohol by volume.
88 points.
$35.

This is a nice Cabernet Sauvignon from Paso Robles, made by Caymus.
Showing red and black fruits with maple, caramel, milk chocolates, oak, vanilla, tobacco and light alcohol.
Medium bodied with medium acidity and hot at the back of the throat.
Might be too young still. I need to check it again in 3 years.

What an absolutely beautiful evening for front porch wine drinking with a delicious wine!

Sep 20th, 2019An offering from the Wagner Family. A Paso Robles Cab, to me a bit disappointing from the Wagner’s. Aromas of simple dark red fruits and some spices. The palate shows over ripe black cherry with big oaky pepper spice. Harsh tannins that stick with you. Medium finish ending hot and spicy. Not that enjoyable. Pass. Tasting Sample. Pricey!

Off dry on the palate with black and red fruits, oak, vanilla, licorice, spices, light vegetables, light earth, mocha and maple syrup.
Medium bodied with medium acidity.
Pleasent on the finish with soft tannins.
A good everyday wine. Good by itself or with food, and a good sipping wine, but might be too sweet for some.

To begin, I am a big fan of Caymus wines, if fact I just got back from a Napa trip and visited Caymus (only tasting Napa wines). 1858 is a Paso Robles Cab, I didn’t like the ‘16 & ‘17 a bit better but still disappointing. Aromas of dark red fruits and some spices. The palate shows big ripe black cherry with pungent oaky pepper spice. Tannins are biting that stick, leaving a medium finish ending hot and spicy. Just ok. Tasting Sample.
