Tonight I was cooking a steak and sautéed veggies for dinner so I thought I'd go to the eminently food friendly Castello San Sano Chianti Classico from 2005 tonight in an homage to last year's Tuscany trip. A Bistecca alla Fiorentina scaled down to Toronto in mid-winter. As there wasn't time to decant the bottle, I aerated the wine through my vinturi and gave it a try. The colour is a deep garnet red. Initial thoughts are a very pleasant aroma with lots of raisins and red fruits. The Sangiovese exhibits good tannins and some acidity to balance the fruits nicely. The finish is medium and fairly pleasant. Glad there are more bottles in the cellar!
