I've had my ups and downs with Chianti/Sangiovese - including a previous encounter with Gabiano's entry level Chianti offering - and I just can't seem to find a solid foothold. Sometimes delicious, sometimes meh. This falls more on the meh side of things. Wound a bit too tight, both on the palette and nose, you get mostly earthy notes but miss out on the fruit. Even with time to open up this one just didn't deliver (I actually preferred the entry level offering).

Absolutely lovely - artisan bread, some cheeses, olives, charcuterie and a warm breeze.

Sour red cherries, tomato & oregano predominate. Licorice. Tannins are smooth, crazy acidic.

Tart cherry, leather. Nice acid and tannin structure. Easily has 10 more years. Wish I had more.
