I'm a veteran of 25 years in the wine business. I'm not a sommelier but a big fan of wine and the stories each glass tells.
Crowd pleasing with some terroir respect. Juicy raspberry and dark fruits supported by dried herbs, licorice. The crowd pleasing part is the soft tannin juicy finish. — 10 years ago
What an awesome surprise! 2004 Merlot from Cono Sur. Likely would have sat on the shelf at the astronomical price of $9.99, but it still shows fruit, although dried and earthy, layers of flavour and acidity... Wow! — 10 years ago
The advice I received in choosing Bordeaux under $20 was to select vintage before supplier. Specifically 2012 over 2011 or 2013. Turned out to be good advice. — 10 years ago
I have become obsessed with finding wines that truly over deliver but are often forgotten because of their price or format. This is one of those wines. $9.99 for 1l, good fruit, spicy finish, medium bodied, good acidity. Have this with you next pasta meal. — 10 years ago
Great value. Under $15, private stores only. Dark and red fruits, dried herbs and wet earth. — 10 years ago
By far one of my fave finds. Dark & bright fruits, dried herbs, cigar box, leather, elegance, finesse. A great brown bagger and a top choice for Easter Hams — 10 years ago
Big wine for a little price. La Mancha Blend of Merlot, Syrah & Tempranillo can be found in select private stores in BC 10.99-12.99 — 10 years ago
It's okay and works with the oysters I'm enjoying, but for $20 I want more complexity and less candy. — 10 years ago
One of my fave wineries from Puglia. I have been a long time lover of the Squinzano, but this was spectacular! Ripe fruit with dried herbs and leather. Perfumed nose with cherry and dried lavender. Layer upon layer upon layer through the mid-palate, through to long supple finish. — 10 years ago
