Casanova di Neri
Tenuta Nuova Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese
Finally opened my ‘03, it was wonderful! Aged in oak barrels for about 30 months, deep Ruby with ripe berry fruit aromas and hints of earthy floral scents. On the palate flavors of ripe black cherry and blackberry fruit with complex spice, licorice, tobacco, mushroom and cacao. Lively acidity with smooth developed tannins, smoky oak notes take this wine to a rich long finish ending with an earthy mineral character.

Apr 26th, 2021Rich, dense dark fruit. Perfect after a few hours of decanting

May 24th, 2014Had to leave it open for at least an hour even at this age. That's how much power and finesse for a medium-bodied wine. Notes of dark cherry and raspberry. Leather and tobacco on this long lasting finish.

Aug 1st, 2020This was quite a nice surprise...!
Not as alcoholic nor boom-bastic as I expected.
Fairly smooth and soft, macerated fruit, caramel, low acidity, this tasted like a mature Napa Cab to me.

This is going to take a while.
Not a stellar year, add age, meh....
Dark, opaque, browning at the rim. Not much in terms of complexity. Next week, I'm opening a 1997 Ciacci.

2003 vintage, drank with meatballs on a Tuesday. Absolutely singing, hitting all the right low and high notes of Brunello-y goodness, and still the depth and concentration to envelop the palate. Very good.

May 6th, 2016I sampled this vintage in Montalcino at the vineyard itself. 2003 was disappointing for Brunello and enophiles may remember the Italian scandal reporting some vintages "blending" the Sangiovese grapes with non-DOCG varieties. That may be OK for Super Tuscans but not Brunello! This bottle was clearly the best of a mediocre year. Which is not surprising. Cheers!
