The precision and pencil lead generated a Bordeaux vibe-driven Sangiovese that was so long and perfectly tart I was tasting this half hour after the last drop. Majestic sour cherries in one of the nicest CC-GSs I’ve ever had. Needed 45 min decant. Props to @Jay Kline on this one: “Bravissimo” indeed!

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple of hours. In a year of low yields, a 2017 “Riserva” was not made however, we were fortunate enough to get this “Gran Selezione” and, spoiler alert: it’s not a mere consolation prize. The wine pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core. Medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. No signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is intense and developing, with complex aromatics consisting of Montmorency cherry, orange pith, fresh sage, eraser head, cedar box, Pu’er tea, gravelly earth, and some subtle spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long with its tart, funky cherry character. A head turner and really, at this point, no-one should really be at all that surprised; it’s Casa Emma we’re talking about. Drinking generously now but has the stuffing to deliver the goods for another 10+ with ease.

Popped and poured, no formal notes. Day 1: a delicious, if not slightly reticent CC that worked quite well with a simple pasta marinara. Day 2: Beguiling. Tart cherries, dusty earth, orange zest, black tea and dried herbs. Could smell it from several feet away. Equally enchanting palate. Stout structure. Long finish with some real energy. A positively gorgeous wine that still has a long life ahead. Bravissimo.

Good Chianti, which improved after it was out for an hour. Not as good as hoped given the price. Some nice earthy flavors emerged after an hour, but the wine had little flavor before that time.

Medium body with a touch of sweet red fruit but very earthy as well. Very nice but need for d to balance the earth.
