Carlisle Winery & Vineyards
Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel
I’m between 91-92 here. Wonderful summer pairing next to the Supernova bubbles!
87zin/13petite sirah. This has everything you want in a Zinfandel but dialed back with class. I’m shocked there is this much PS because even at 11yrs, it’s not overly dark/chocolate driven/black pepper spiced. Seductive aromatics of violets, black cherry, mixed berry pie. Great acidity for a Zinfandel. Cedar, spiced red and black berry fruits. Drinking at peak. If you love elegant zin, you’re hard pressed to find a better one. A perfect wine for our TX bbq.

Obviously could use more time but it’s in a nice spot right now!

Apr 24th, 2019The ‘16 is just a stupid good value. Teldeschi Ranch Zin with a spike of 15% Petite Sirah. It’s big and beautiful, yet refined and classy. Everything you could ask for in a Carlisle appellation that drinks like an awesome SV.

Jul 29th, 2018This is just silly good for the price. Its great every year and the ‘16 is no exception. It’s got 15% petit sirah which gives it a unique depth and the terroir of Dry Creek always shines through on this beauty.

Jul 13th, 2018These are really good. Not as plush as the Russian River appellation Zin but more structured with more drying tannins. 2hr decant and it’s singing like Bing Crosby.

Oct 17th, 2017Becoming my fav quaff for Sunday Night Filet, bakers, and classic spinach salad. Dark, inky black in the glass...nice alcohol, acid, fruit balance. Lots of ripe black fruit, touch of bitter stem, and notes of oaky leather/tobacco. 15% is totally invisible. Long finish and pure pleasure.

1 person found it helpfulNov 30th, 2020Okay...I admit it..,when I think of red-check table-cloth Italian (pizza, pasta, Stromboli, calzone, etc.) I almost invariably reach for a young, vibrant Zinfandel. And Carlisle does it better than most. Dark, juicy, acid-driven, soft and packing enough alcohol to bring a smile. And this very young, screw-topped Dry Creek wine ticks all the boxes. “Crush me! Now!” It cries. Okay. And a bottle is never enough for two. Yummy and guilt-proof.
