Over the hill. Wet leaves, cherry cough drops, nutty, celery seed, acid still there. I think this would have been just right 3-4 years ago.

Why Caperone is not one of the most sought-after wineries in America is beyond me. This is like a top 1% of Chianti Classico. Very Old World. Exuberant nose is deep dark macerated cherries and licorice. Pungent gravelly/limestoney minerality. Very flavorful but with a bit in reserve that comes out in the long, intense, savory, nicely acid-balanced finish. Terrific wine.

Drinks like a traditional chianti. High-toned aromatics of dusty rose and light cherry. Searing acidity and restrained alcohol and (I almost don't want to let the secret out) $16!

Unusual orangish-red hue, mix of sour cherry and earthiness on the palate. Prefer a good Italian equivalent, but glad I try this distant California relative.

Wine 2 of Friday nights tasting. Never heard of this producer in Paso. Very old school and interesting wine. Dusty tannins, tart cherries and forest floor.

At peak if not past it's prime, still good and needs plenty of time.

Big notes up front with just smooth finish...love that unfined/unfiltered wine! Keeping these grapes from creating too much ABV has gotta be tough in Paso but year in and year out impressed by the big flavor with amazing finish reds!
