Nov 21st, 2021Just as good as I remember it. Howell Mountain is definitely somewhere special. You get that great sense of mineral character and it’s oh so rich!

May 4th, 2021Velvety and seamless fruit follow a rich and brambly nose of black currant and light vanilla. Cade just keep upping their game. Outstanding.

Dec 30th, 2020Typical Howell Mountain style with very firm structure and excellent dark garnet color and high acidity. This baby needs decanting for not less than 2 hours and is still improving 36 hours later. It’s a very sturdy wine, enjoyable on its own or paired with a beautifully charred rib eye. I’m worried that Plumpjack will increase its price for this. Cheers!

Feb 7th, 2020Finally getting around to posting Day 5 in Napa, our final day. 5 years in a row visiting...hope to make it 6 next year!
This is just super young. The signature mountain fruit is gritty and tightly wound. Graphite, underripe red and black fruits, roasted plum, mocha and dark chocolate. Give it time.

Cade vs Davis Howell Mountain showdown - 2016 edition - tasted blind
Cade was the group favorite. Deep blueberry and blackberry, vanilla, cinnamon, but not overwhelming, grippy yet fine and integrated tannin, medium pleasant acidity. Long finish. Ready to go.
Davis: nice redcurrant, red cherry, blueberry notes. A distinct cooling mintiness and some herbal notes. More structured with dusty tannin and higher acidity, very slight bitterness on an otherwise pleasing long finish. This was the more obvious mountain cab. The Davis has at least 5 years to improve...would probably show better than the Cade then.
