Bruno Giacosa
Le Rocche del Falletto Riserva Barolo Nebbiolo
Slight cherry cola note in the nose, earthy, truffle like, pale tawny color, lean restrained palate, but delicate and beautiful

Mar 21st, 20152004 Bruno Giacosa Le Rocche Falletto Riserva:
pale garnet color with notable tearing.
Initial impressions upon opening: Still a little closed. . . medium intensity of cherry, rose petal, balsamic, orange spice herbs (rosemary, oregano), fig, tar, tea, eucalyptus, Beachwood. On the palate, high acid, high alcohol, light-body, really finely grained tannins - polished - and high intensity of flavors echoing the nose but in an ethereal body that feels weightless. The finish is very long. Seems to end but then comes back for a second and third lap.
After 2 hr decant: nose opening up - aromas similar but medium (+) to pronounced with an added cola element and anise.
After 4 hrs: more tea and forest floor. The second day, it showed a lot more tertiary notes.
I enjoyed it most at a 2 hr decant.
Overall, it is a brilliantly balanced wine with a ton of complexity and potential. Drinking it this early though is to cut it short. Better to wait another 10+ years and enjoy it at its fullest.

This was a stubborn wine that despite a double decant and an hour in the glass it did not give much until the end. It’s all in there and when it comes out it will be probably the best Wine I have in my cellar. For now it’s white label counterpart is more generous.

Nov 6th, 2018Still ruby center, lightening garnet rim. Some development but still quite deep. On first opening very closed , lots being held back. After an hour and a half in decanter there is a licorice , spice, strawberry and plum fruit, leather and coffee. For me a sign of a high quality wine is how much it changes and evolves in the glass , this evolved a lot, every time I went back to it I could find something new. With still much hidden with amazing depth, already thinking that this is actually slightly a waste to open now, very young and tight , needs years. Excellent fruit in the mouth, lovely sweet tannins also , but very young. Great enormous length. Black plum , spice, tobacco and coffee , black currant also. An outstanding wine, that requires or more correctly Deserves time. However it wasn’t as impenetrable as I had feared.
